Everyday care

A simple skin care routine you can actually keep

Build a small routine around cleansing, moisturising and sun protection, then use a product inventory to decide what belongs in it.

A shelf full of products can make daily care harder to understand. Before adding another serum, decide what you need your routine to do and which steps you can maintain on an ordinary workday. This guide gives you a practical way to organise the products you already own, read their directions and prepare useful questions for a consultation.

Start with three jobs, rather than a shopping list

The American Academy of Dermatology describes cleansing, moisturising and sun protection as the foundations of a simple routine. A product does not have to be expensive to belong in that routine. Its directions, suitability for your skin and ease of regular use matter more than how many steps appear in a social-media video.

Separate the basics from optional products. Place your cleanser, moisturiser and sunscreen together, and keep anything you are unsure about aside until you have checked its label. This is an organisational exercise, not a reason to discontinue a prescribed treatment. Follow your prescriber’s directions for any medicine.

Make a product inventory before changing anything

Write down the exact product name, what the label says it is for, when you use it and whether you have noticed discomfort. Photograph the ingredient list if the bottle is difficult to bring to an appointment. Describing a product only as “the blue serum” makes a discussion less precise.

Include makeup removers, exfoliating products and occasional masks, not just items you use every morning. If you cannot explain what an optional product contributes, put that question on your consultation list before buying another product with a similar purpose.

Your preparation checklist

  • Product name and a photograph of its label
  • Morning, evening or occasional use
  • Directions and any warnings on the packaging
  • What you want it to do and any discomfort you have noticed

Keep the morning and evening easy to remember

For cleansing, use a gentle approach rather than aggressive scrubbing. The AAD’s face-washing guidance recommends lukewarm water, a gentle cleanser and your fingertips, followed by gentle drying. More washing is not automatically better; their guidance generally limits washing to twice daily and after sweating.

Organise your morning products in the order required by their labels and finish with your daytime sun-protection step. In the evening, keep the products you use to remove makeup or sunscreen easy to find. A routine that fits your bathroom and schedule is easier to repeat than one that depends on remembering a long list.

Read sun-protection labels carefully

The AAD recommends a broad-spectrum, water-resistant sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher. Broad-spectrum protection covers UVA and UVB. Follow the application instructions and reapply outdoors every two hours, and after swimming or sweating as directed. Sunscreen is one part of protection alongside shade and clothing.

When comparing products, note the size of the container, directions and how readily you can use it again during your day. Keep a suitable product somewhere you will remember it before going outdoors. A high number on the front of the bottle does not remove the need to follow the instructions.

Use a short routine record to ask better questions

Record what you used and how your skin felt, without trying to diagnose yourself. A useful note might say “this cleanser leaves my cheeks feeling tight” rather than “I definitely have a damaged barrier”. Bring that record and your product inventory when seeking advice. If symptoms persist or you are concerned about a skin condition, seek a qualified clinician rather than adding more cosmetic products.

Fresh Look’s shop lets you compare available products, but a shop description cannot establish what is suitable for an individual skin condition. Before a visit in Prishtine or Fushe Kosove, you can contact the team with your routine questions and ask whether a cosmetic consultation or medical advice is the right next step.

What to take away

Keep a clear inventory, understand each product’s instructions and make your basic routine easy to repeat. Use a consultation to answer specific questions, rather than building a routine around trends.
